Hospitals could face more than $150 million in costs associated with the shutdown of New York's largest private health insurer in its exchange. Health Republic, a cooperative health plan, insured about 20 percent of the state's private customers in its New York State of Health program. With roughly 200,000 customers statewide, Health Republic is the largest insurer in the exchange in many counties, including in Erie, Dutchess, Ulster, Putnam and Westchester counties.
