Bullying incidents at area schools

New York schools are required to submit annual reports about incidents of harassment, menacing, bullying and intimidation in schools. There are two distinct but similar reporting mechanisms that may capture different incidents: the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) and the Violent And Disruptive Incident Report (VADIR).

According to Amanda Nickerson, director of the Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention at the University of Buffalo, underreporting of bullying and harassment incidents is a widespread problem across the state.
