2018-19 State aid for NY school districts

The state budget approved for the 2018-19 fiscal year includes an additional $1 billion in school aid, bringing the total to a record $26.7 billion.

The aid increase includes $859 million in growth in the formula-based aid, but the data doesn't include $136 million that districts may receive in competitive grants.

A district with a decline in school aid is probably due to a drop in "expense-based aid." For example, the state Budget Division said that when a school district pays off their outstanding debt on a school construction project, building-aid reimbursements can go down.
