The New York State Education Department Wednesday released the 2013 test scores for students in grades three to eight for English language arts (ELA) and math. The tests students took in the 2012-13 school year were based on a new, more challenging State Education Department curriculum called the Common Core.
Schools and teachers warned that the results would be significantly lower than in previous years as a result of the change. Statewide, 31.1% of students met or exceeded proficiency standards for math, and 31.2% met or exceeded proficiency standards for English language arts.
For privacy reasons, results for schools with fewer than 5 students are not included.
